Health hazards that you probably proudly have in the home...

1. Gun...

try to avoid this one unless your an avid gun enthusiast, or an officer of the law...it is far more likely that you will fall victim to it or because of it (as criminals like to steal other people's guns for some reason...go figure). Also, if you have children or even more concerning - grandchildren...I would invest in a very good safety system the moment you get the call that they were born...

Always know if your kids are going to a house that has a gun, know your friends, neighbors and kids' friends parents well enough to ask them to take pre-cautions...

2. Salt shaker...

EHC agrees this is one that's worse than the gun...no one should own one especially if you live in the U.S. Casual store bought dinners, eating out and your average low-carb diet microwavable will have enough sodium in them to approach two days worth of your sodium needs. In addition, track your sodium intake by reviewing the nutrition label and add it up regularly...

3. Bad furniture...

always invest well in your chairs, bedding and your sofas as a good choice will allow you to live and work a lot longer. We all know about furniture that makes it hard to get up for the wrong reasons and for the good reasons...pay attention to your back health and test things out for true support. A good bed might be more expensive, but you'll thank yourself for the solid sleep you get...

4. Poor lighting...

there have been more patient's created by poor lighting and tripping hazards than you would think. I would suggest visiting your parents and looking for tripping hazards on the regular. Look for areas, hallways, places of egress where the lighting is poor and can hide wetness, slippery areas, stairs without supportive grips. Contractors live everywhere, so look into adding lights and support fixtures whenever you identify an area. Don't forget about the bathroom either.

5. Clutter...

you know these people well...some part of the house is loaded with papers, Amazon boxes, etc...well its a fire hazard and as such a health hazard...there are plenty of options of businesses that will come by your home and for a small fee remove these items for good...

6. Non-functional fire alarms, radon detectors, carbon monoxide detectors...

For obvious reasons you should make sure your home and your parents homes have functioning fire alarms and radon detect

7. Old prescriptions...

especially opiates including fentanyl patches, benzodiazepines and pretty much any medication that is a prescription from a doctor that needs a diagnosis in order to take. If you can't get it from over the counter it should not be sitting in your bathroom (unless you take it obviously).

So discard old medications as soon as you realize you don't need them. And keep your current prescriptions away from your kids and grandkids (and their friends).

8. Miscellaneous...

A few additional items recommended against...processed sweets and baked goods (without moderation that is - never buy in an amount that would last past a treat day/cheat day or celebration).

Vaping products, for all the reasons you hear about currently.

Charcoal grills, switch to electric or gas grill - will reduce charred/'burnt' meat and reduce your risk of colon cancer.
